Roughest seas are scattered white.  A result of the boiling, turbulent water fracturing the light.

The wake of a ship calms the waters for a moment before turbulent forces render calm green into shades of violent white.

When I was Army Maritime Operations, I had my share of tumultuous seas.  I’ve pulled dozens of people out of the waves bigger than my boat.  So, when I read or think about the Sea of Galilee, I never really imagine the Savior calming the sea.  Instead, I picture him navigating the dangerous waters and comforting the crew. In Maritime Tradition, I leave you with these words by Stan Rogers:

And you, to whom adversity has dealt the final blow

With smiling bastards lying to you everywhere you go

Turn to, and put out all your strength of arm and heart and brain

And like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again.

Rise again, rise again – though your heart it be broken

And life about to end

No matter what you’ve lost, be it a home, a love, a friend.

Like the Mary Ellen Carter, rise again.
