Mimiw
“Yet-yau tau-ti ky-puum ni fadet oo-ra-eyu. In yaf ki-yaak a ku-mayi.”
-This Funerary Statue will take your last breath and carry your soul back to Egypt.
Since before the sands and times of Egypt, cats have held a special origin with humans. They
have protected us, guided us, been our Gods and Goddesses. The divine relationship we have
with them is integrated into the human identity and memory. Cats are part of the human
experience, the human soul.
Mimiw was a proud and elegant cat who looked out for the clan. May this statue carry his soul
back to Egypt.
This sculpture is made from traditional limestone and granite. The Halo is based off the sun motif used in Ancient Egyptian sculpture to designate celestial status. It is the beleif of these Egyptians that the "Ka" or the soul can be transferred to these objects and carry the dead to the afterlife. The sculpture is inspired by Bastet, the Goddess of Protection, and the canopic jars used to prepare the body for the afterlife.
